The origins of the Advent wreath are located in the popular practice of pre-Christian Germanic peoples who, during the cold December night in Eastern Europe, met with evergreen wreaths and candles as a sign found hope in the coming spring and renewed light. People used to perpetuate the cult of Holly as a sign of eternal life, because they will not brown in the winter or die. Christians are kept alive the traditions, and in the 16th Century, Catholics and Protestants in Germany used these symbols to celebrate their Advent hope in Christ, the eternal light. From Germany the use of the crown spread of Advent to other parts of the Christian world.
I think the Christmas wreaths are used to symbolize the normal or the observance of Christmas traditions. We hung in what may be special occasions, whether happy, peaceful love, or RIP.
